Troubled Bradford school appoints interim head
Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College said Sophie Gillies had been appointed interim principal in place of Jen McIntosh.
The school, rated as “requiring improvement” by inspectors, said Mrs McIntosh “will not be in college for a period of time”.
Bradford Council said it was aware of Mrs Gillies’ appointment but could not comment further.
A 2013 Ofsted report said students’ progress was not rapid enough, the quality of teaching was not good enough to ensure students achieved as well as they should and, in some lessons, teachers did not always plan.
A monitoring inspection in 2014 raised “serious concerns” about the governance of the college, resulting in the council replacing the board of governors with an interim executive board.
A spokesperson for the school said: “Interim management arrangements have been put in place and the local authority is working with the interim executive board at the college, continuing to focus on the education of the students and improving attainment as speedily as possible for all concerned.
Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, executive member for education, skills and culture, said: “The council is aware that the principal of Laisterdyke Business and Enterprise College is not in college at the moment. However, this is a matter for the college and we are not able to comment on issues relating to individuals.
“An interim principal has been put in place. The interim principal and the interim executive board will ensure the focus of the college remains on prioritising students’ education achievement.”
